#Boston is home to over 40,000 small businesses – #ShopSmall #ShopLocal.

Our first business to be highlighted in our small business series is Crawford Drug.  Crawford Drug located at 1735 Dorchester Ave has been a staple in the Greater Ashmont community for over 50 years, They are one of a handful of locally and family owned, full-service retail pharmacies located in Boston.

They have had three generations of pharmacists working behind the counter, helping patients manage all of their health care needs.  Since 1975, they have always employed family and people from our neighborhood, truly making them a community pharmacy.

The owners Mike and Steve, a dynamic uncle and nephew combo have respectively 20 and 35 years of experience in the field and have spent the majority of that time working at Crawford Drug.  Kyle, a Dorchester native has worked with Crawford Drug for 10 years and Rickey, Mike’s brother, has been with Crawford Drug for many years

Always trying to improve the store, Crawford Drug offers mobile delivery services to seniors and homebound individuals, this is a 100% FREE service that they have been providing for many years.

Over the past three years Crawford Drug has been working very hard to modernize and update the pharmacy. They have invested in a new pharmacy software program, computers, and point of sale machines. All of these upgrades have allowed Crawford Drug to better serve their patients in a welcoming and friendly pharmacy.

What separates Crawford Drug from the larger chain pharmacies is their knowledge of not only the work but of the community that they serve. When you call Crawford Drug a real person picks up the phone.  They truly are the “Cheers” (where everybody knows your name) of pharmacies.  They understand the importance of personal connections and strive to use today’s technologies to provide superior service.

Outside of pharmacy their work,  during the pandemic, Crawford Drug was able to help fellow small businesses in the Greater Ashmont District navigate some of the Paycheck Protection (PPP) process and City of Boston business grants, tasks that were crucial to help them obtain funding and keep their business afloat during the pandemic.  They have also participated in local clean up days and played a part in the installation of the beautiful flower planters that you may have seen up and down Dorchester Ave.
