During this particular moment in time, as Boston grapples with the Public Health Emergency caused by covid-19, we are proud to be able to act as the fiscal agent for a small group of mostly Dorchester residents working to help neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity. One hundred bags of shelf stable food were shopped for with $2700 of initial donations, assembled in our office, and delivered to social workers at three Dorchester schools to distribute to families in need. This is one of the kindness efforts profiled in the Boston Globe article. Since that first week, hundreds more bags have been assembled, distributed, and delivered and are averaging $20 per bag. This group plans to continue weekly distribution of a bag of grocery staples from our office until our community is past this together. Many now need to provision unexpectedly for weeks of recommended self-isolation or because access to school breakfast and lunch meals will be more challenging after schools close. Please see the Boston Food Access Map for resources beyond our own).
