These new signs and lighting were coordinated and subsidized through the City’s Boston Main Streets Restore and Design Services which use federal  Community Development Block Grant funding for signage and storefront facade improvements. The program allows small business owners in Boston’s low and moderate income districts to be reimbursed for exterior finishes, replacements of storefront windows and doors, signage, and lighting. Additional design services and resources can be arranged free of charge, including access to architects and graphic designers to assist with branding. The above business owners in Greater Ashmont have received between $2,500 to $9,000 reimbursement for each project.
